A new filing for a new Google Nest WiFi router that supports WiFi 6E was uncovered in the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) database.
Unfortunately, the new Google Nest WiFi device only has a label and no images. Public access to the filing is available, but it only contains test results, a few reports, and a few letters. We know that the device will have a model number of G6ZUC and will support a variety of wireless technology standards.
WiFi 6E Support
Since June, rumors about a Google Nest WiFi router that supports WiFi 6 have been circulating. The most current wireless standard, WiFi 6, uses the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to operate. The standard can support more devices with two bands while not sacrificing speed. That ideal scenario, though, becomes less likely in a situation where there are many devices if the bandwidth fills up. As a result, overall speeds are reduced.
The main distinction between WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E is adding a third 6Ghz band in the WiFi 6E, which ups the ante. The latter is much faster than the former and permits a more significant number of devices to connect, but it is not an actual generational improvement over the former.
However, having that extra lane increases the likelihood of high-speed connectivity. Recent Google routers don't support WiFi 6, which puts it behind some of its rivals. For instance, Amazon's Eero 6 router fully supports WiFi 6. Google is essentially playing catch-up with this new Nest gadget.
The Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) support is noteworthy even though WiFi 6E support is arguably the most significant update. The original Bluetooth standard is modified for less power consumption by this technology. On its 2.4Ghz frequency band, Bluetooth LE can transmit data across 40 channels, according to the official website. This new standard and Bluetooth Classic share the same bandwidth, despite having fewer channels.
Support for the Thread protocol, a wireless standard that enables "smart home devices [to] work together," can also be found in the FCC filing. It accomplishes this by using every smart home device, including routers, as an access point to build a mesh network. A Thread network achieves high-quality connections because devices communicate with one another rather than a central hub. Lower latency and less energy use are advantages.
At this time, no release date has been set. The new Google Nest router may debut later, but the fall appears to be extremely busy for the tech giant.
Google Launch
Google is expected to have a busy launch in the fall of 2022. According to recent reports, the Pixel 7 smartphone will debut in September along with the highly anticipated Android 13 operating system. According to some leaks, the Pixel Fold smartphone and Pixel Watch may also be released in October.
Google plans no significant events to introduce the new Nest router in the Fall or Early Winter. Additionally, as far as we know, there haven't been any leaks about the new Nest router. Everyone will have to wait and see, but we hope it happens soon. Google's lead over rivals gets wider the longer it takes to release its WiFi 6E capable router.
