Cyberpunk 2077 update adds mod management, and more

With the 1.6 Edgerunners updates, announced along with the Phantom Liberty DLC pack, Cyberpunk 2077 will get a new performance mode for Xbox Series S, an official tool for installing and making mods. The updates will include significant improvements to outfits. Like the DLC, it seems like most future updates to the game will only be for next-gen consoles. The company says that version 1.6 will be the "last major update" for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The update can be downloaded today for all platforms, including those last-gen consoles (though the modding tools are only for the PC). It's a 39.6GB download for the Xbox Series X.

The patch also lets logged-in users save across platforms. You could load the save file from your Steam Deck onto your PS5 and continue playing right where you left off. (There are a few exceptions if you live in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or Japan, where some of the game's content is blocked.)

Along with the update, CD Projekt Red is creating a tool for PC users called REDmod. Even though the game has been able to use mods for more than a year, the company says that the official tool will help people create, manage, and install mods. The REDmod website says that you will be able to add your sounds, animations, and scripts to the game.

The update also includes several more minor changes. The Xbox Series S is getting the performance mode setting from the Xbox Series X. This makes the game try to hit 60fps while keeping the resolution between 800p and 1080p. Some of the new content in the 1.6 patches, like "new equipment and new Photo Mode features," will be related to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime that will start on Netflix next week.

Fans of CD Projekt's other big franchise, The Witcher, can now play a game with Geralt's horse on an arcade cabinet inside the game. It looks a lot like the dinosaur game in Google Chrome, where you keep running, jumping, and ducking to avoid obstacles, and the company is putting it out as a separate app for Android and iOS.
